Local municipalities, like the City of Spanish Fort, cleared their city-maintained roads following Hurricane Isaias. (City of Spanish Fort)

Following Hurricane Isaias, local municipalities around Mobile Bay gave a round of applause to the crews who cleared roads, restored power and kept residents informed. The work isn’t quite finished, though, as the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is set to begin the first round of storm debris cleanup along state-maintained roads starting Monday, Oct. 19.

The initial round of pickup will take place in four counties:

  • Conecuh
  • Escambia
  • Monroe
  • Wilcox

Residents should place eligible storm debris along the public right-of-way as soon as possible before the Oct. 19 start date. Debris from private property will not be collected.

What will be collected:

  • Vegetation debris, such as tree limbs and branches, left by Hurricane Isaias
  • Debris must be within the public right-of-way, the area between the road and the property line
    • May include: ditches, sidewalks + areas near utility poles

Contractors will begin in areas with storm damage along U.S. and state highways where crews can safely work.

Stay tuned for more updates on ALDOT’s storm debris pickup.
