Although we avoided the worst of Hurricane Isaias, there is still plenty to be thankful for. Local municipalities around Mobile Bay are giving a round of applause to the crews who cleared roads, restored power and kept residents informed.

Mobile thanks city teams for Hurricane Isaias response

Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said the city was fortunate to miss the worst of the storm, which made landfall near Destin, though several residents lost power through Sunday. In a Facebook post, he praised the employees who worked through the storm and began clearing debris right after it passed.

“Members of our Engineering, Resilience, Public Services, and Public Safety teams went above and beyond to make sure Mobilians were not only safe but had the best information available throughout the storm.”

Spanish Fort credits police, fire + utility partners

The City of Spanish Fort thanked its police department, Spanish Fort Fire Rescue and public works departments for their collaboration during the storm. The city also gave a special shout-out to utility partners Riviera Utilities and Baldwin EMC, whose crews worked to restore power to residents.

“This is what teamwork is all about. Thank you to everyone who answered the call!”

Daphne grateful for fire, police + public works crews

The City of Daphne, Mayor Robin LeJeune and the Daphne City Council thanked the Daphne Fire Department, Daphne Police Department and Daphne Public Works for their long hours preparing for and working through Isaias. The city said crews handled everything from downed tree limbs to structure fires and kept people safe from fallen power lines.

The work isn’t done for Fairhope public works crews

The City of Fairhope expressed gratitude for the public works employees who have spent long days clearing fallen limbs, picking up debris piles and getting the city back in shape. The work is not done yet.

The city’s message to residents: if you see these crews out working, give them a wave or a thank you.

Sending support to Florida and the Panhandle

Several local leaders also turned their thoughts to neighbors in Florida, where Isaias made landfall near Destin. Municipalities in the Mobile Bay area extended well wishes to Panhandle communities as they begin to recover.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in Florida as they begin recovering from the impacts of this weekend’s hurricane.”
