A timeless Mobile hotel, The Admiral Hotel, was one of just five Alabama hotels recognized in the MICHELIN Guide 2026! The 156-room boutique hotel was originally established in November 1940 — when it became the first fully air-conditioned hotel in Mobile.

Here’s a quick rundown:

The Admiral Hotel was listed in the MICHELIN Guide 2026 alongside other beloved Alabama hotels, including:

  • The Laurel Hotel & Spa – Auburn
  • The Painted Lady – Birmingham
  • Elyton Hotel – Birmingham
  • GunRunner – Florence

What do these Alabama locations have in common? Check out what the MICHELIN Guide looks for:

  • Excellence in interior design and architecture
  • Individuality, reflecting personality and authenticity
  • Quality and consistency in service, comfort and maintenance
  • An open door to the destination
  • Ability to deliver an extraordinary experience for its price

“The rooms and suites are as comfortable as many a more conventional luxury hotel, and quite a bit more memorable; the same can be said of the hotel’s café, cocktail bar, and its restaurant, Le Moyne’s Chophouse.”

Did you know the Mobile hotel has seen an impressive collection of celebrities, like Elvis Presley, Eleanor Roosevelt and Gene Autry? In the early 1970s, local legend Jimmy Buffett even performed regularly at The Admiral’s Corner Lounge.

The Admiral is more than just its rich history, though, although that’s undoubtedly a major aspect of its charm. It was purchased by Avocet Hospitality Group in 2022 and underwent renovations in 2023 — check out our article on The Bama Buzz to learn more about its facelift.

The hotel’s amenities feature:

  • Award-winning Le Moyne’s Chophouse
  •  Le Café
  • The Living Room
  • Outdoor pool
  • 6,000 square feet of meeting and event space
  • Prime balcony overlooking Government Street (perfect for watching Mardi Gras parades)
  • Rooftop honey bee colony and a thriving herb garden

From The Admiral Hotel’s avant-garde décor and modern luxury features to its location in the heart of Downtown Mobile, it came as no surprise that the MICHELIN Guide would add it to this year’s selection of the best hotels across the U.S.
