Take a look at the new Jubilee Elementary + Loxley Elementary Schools

This fall, two Baldwin County public schools, Jubilee Elementary and Loxley Elementary, finished construction and began operations on the first day of school, Aug. 12. Both elementary schools officially celebrated their grand openings on Friday, Aug. 28, with a ribbon cutting and tour.

These two brand new public schools were built to accommodate Baldwin County’s rapid population growth.

Baldwin County celebrate’s Jubilee Elementary’s grand opening

Jubilee Elementary celebrated its grand opening at 9AM on Friday, Aug. 28. Among the Daphne community attendees were Baldwin County Board of Education (BCBE) Superintendent Marty McRae, Principal Dana Bottoms, Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune, BCBE officials and the Jubilee sixth grade Peer Helpers.

“In my 23 years as a principal, this is actually my second ribbon cutting, but this one’s very different because at my other ribbon cutting, we were just opening up a new building. This one is opening up a new school community. We are new all the way around, so we have this fabulous building bringing together today 656 students that are in this building, and building our first traditions, building everything that is going to be known as Jubilee.”

During the ceremony, Daphne’s Mayor LeJeune expressed his excitement for not only the Jubilee Elementary facility, but also for the second middle school in Daphne’s feeder program, the W.J. Carroll Intermediate School.

The new elementary school sits on 30 acres of the 106 acres that the school board purchased several years ago. The cost of the 137,361 square foot building was $36,185,714 for building construction only. The building’s architecture was created by Adams Stewart Architects, and Bayshore Construction Co., Inc. was the general contractor.

Each classroom wing’s hallways and floors are color-coded to help students find their way around the building. One wing also serves as a storm shelter.

“When we say a storm shelter, it completely covers — you might as well walk into a cave. So if we have some bad weather, our kids have got a place to go.”

Baldwin County celebrates Loxley Elementary’s grand opening

Loxley Elementary celebrated its grand opening shortly after Jubilee Elementary at 11AM on Friday, Aug. 28.

Alongside members of the community, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by:

• Principal Gina McClure
• Loxley Mayor Richard Teal
• Foley Mayor Ralph Hellmich
• Robertsdale Mayor Ruthie Campbell
• State of Alabama Representative Donna Glover
• BCBE Board Members

Similar to the halls of Jubilee Elementary, Loxley Elementary’s wings are color-coded. The school currently has each wing themed with “houses,” inspired by Harry Potter:

• Pathfinder: Blue + eagle mascot
• Waykeepers: Red + wolf mascot
• Lightseekers: Yellow + lion mascot
• Crestbearers: Green + horse mascot

The new Loxley Elementary sits on a 50-acre site, with the 137,361 square-foot building’s construction totaling $36,134,846.67.

Their architecture was constructed by Adams Stewart Architects. The general contractor for the site was Triptek Construction, and the general contractor for the building’s construction was Sharpe, Inc.
