Passport Fair in Mobile to be hosted by Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s office on May 27

Mobilians will have the opportunity to renew or apply for their U.S. passport more quickly next Wednesday, May 27.

Representatives from U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s office, joined by members of the New Orleans Passport Center, will be at the Mobile Convention center to accept applications and payments for renewals and new passports. The applications will be taken to New Orleans for immediate processing.

Here’s a quick rundown:

  • When: Wednesday, May 27 from 8:30AM to noon
  • Where: Mobile Convention Center (1 S. Water Street)

If multiple family members are planning to attend together, it is asked that they register under one name and make a note of how many people in the group will be participating.

Those planning to attend the fair should bring:

  • A payment option:
    • Credit or debit card
    • Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay
  • 2×2 passport photo
  • A government-issued ID
    • Driver’s license, military ID, etc.
  • Proof of citizenship:
    • If born in the United States:
      • U.S. birth certificate
      • Delayed birth certificate (filed more than 1 year after birth)
      • Early public or private records/documents (from first 5 years of applicant’s life)
      • Letter of No Record
    • If born outside of the United States:
      • Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA)
      • Certificate of Naturalization 
      • Certificate of Citizenship
      • Documents in a foreign language must include a professional English translation + notarized letter about accuracy of translation.
    • If you were born outside the United States and got U.S. citizenship through your U.S. citizen parent(s):
      • Your foreign birth certificate listing your parent(s)
      • Your parent(s)’ evidence of U.S. citizenship
      • Your parents’ marriage certificate (if your parents were married)
      • A statement from your parents that details when and where they lived in the U.S. and abroad before your birth

You’ll also want to make sure your 2×2 passport photo meets the specific requirements before going.

Passport photos should:

  1. Be a one color photo
  2. Be a recent photo (taken in the last 6 months)
  3. Use a clear image of your face 
  4. Remain unchanged by computer software, phone apps or filters or artificial intelligence 
  5. Have you directly facing the camera, without tilting your head
  6. Not have you wearing eyeglasses in them
  7. Use a white or off-white background without shadows, texture or lines

Pro-tip: Contrary to what some people may think, you can smile in your passport photo! Just make sure your eyes are open and your mouth is closed.
