A new facility for senior citizens, the John E. King Senior Center, is set to open in Hillsdale on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, with a ribbon cutting at 11AM. The new center is named in honor of long-time resident and active member of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church John E. King.

The purpose of the John E. King Senior Center is to keep seniors in the area active and help them build lasting friendships.

Here’s a quick run-down:

The new center will feature televisions, spaces for activities and a warming kitchen to serve hot meals to seniors through the city’s Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program.

“It’s so important that our seniors have a place where they can stay active, nurture friendships and pass the time in a comfortable and clean environment.”
