Crews are starting the next segment of the St. Louis Street “Complete Streets” project this week, continuing the corridor’s transformation with new drainage, landscaping and walkability upgrades.

Construction update on St. Louis Street

McElhenney Construction has already begun milling to remove base layers of asphalt between Hamilton and Claiborne streets. St. Louis Street between Hamilton and Franklin will close mid-week, though the Franklin Street intersection will stay open for now.

The work marks a shift into blocks eight and nine of the $16 million, 17-block revitalization of one of downtown Mobile’s most popular business corridors.

Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis praised the team behind the milestone:

“I want to commend our Programs and Project Management team, led by Director Jennifer Greene, for getting this transformational project to this point.

“Throughout this process, the team has worked with community members, business owners and the contractor to keep things moving efficiently. I couldn’t be more excited to see the finished product. I know it will change the way our residents navigate this area of downtown.”

Spiro Cheriogotis, Mayor, City of Mobile
