Gulf Shores Airport begins $15M terminal expansion with 2027 goal

The Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF/JKA) broke ground on a $15 million terminal expansion, aimed to amplify the airport’s already impressive passenger growth. More than 34,000 passengers traveled through Gulf Shores International in June — a new all-time record for the airport since the service was established in May 2025.
With construction underway, the expansion is set to be complete in summer 2027. The terminal area will include:
- Relaxed outdoor patio
- Dedicated mothers’ nursing area
- Expanded food, beverage + retail offerings for passengers
“Even though we are growing, we will keep the airport experience quick, easy, inexpensive, and cheerful. The ‘small-community’ feel of the airport is still paramount to our mission.”
Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh

Gulf Shores International Airport secures $2M federal grant for major terminal renovations

The airport was awarded a $2 million FAA Airport Terminal Program grant in spring 2026. Funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the grant supports projects that improve travelers’ experiences.
TripTek Construction LLC was awarded the construction contract for the project. While renovation is underway, the airport will remain open — although the terminal area and adjacent parking facilities will be subject to construction activity.
“We understand that growth doesn’t happen without some operational challenges, especially while you are required to run your airport at the same time as construction and renovation is occurring. We appreciate the public’s patience as we go through this growth and construction with the end goal of serving them better.”
Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh
