Celebrate the start of the school year at a “Back 2 School Bash” at Mardi Gras Park from 10AM-noon, where up to 1,000 students will receive a special Mobile Parks and Recreation Department-themed backpack and school supply giveaway.
Hosted by the City of Mobile, the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) and District 2 City Councilwoman Samantha Ingram, event will feature games, music, line dancing food and drinks.
“The Back 2 School Bash is a community effort, and this event gives us a chance to celebrate our students while supporting the families and teachers who help them succeed. We’re looking forward to bringing the community together at Mardi Gras Park.”
Shad Collins, Mobile Parks and Recreation Department’s Superintendent of Recreation
Prior to the event, from 9-10:30AM at Mardi Gras Park, MPRD will also be hosting an outdoor Science, Technology, Recreation, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STREAM) adventure for children to learn all about Mars.
Designed for children ages 7 to 13, “Mars Mission” will offer a mixture of science and creativity through hands-on activities inspired by the Red Planet. Kids can build their own solar-powered mini rovers, explore how solar energy creates motion through simple circuits and put their imaginations to work designing their own Mars colony — complete with power systems and habitats.
