Plans for Foley’s new aquatics center is moving forward, marking the end of an era for the city’s outdoor pool that was constructed over 70 years ago. To learn more about what Foley’s new aquatics center will feature, check out our article from June.

Max Griffin Park, where the new facility will be built, will be receiving $204,000 of additional improvements soon. The park is located at 300 W Roosevelt Ave, Foley, AL 36535.

Improvements will include:

  • Exterior restrooms at the new Aquatic Center
  • Upgrades to lighting at the park’s softball field
  • Replacement of overhead power lines with an underground electrical system

“We would like to use this available funding and put LED lighting on the softball field that is going to remain in Max Griffin Park.”

Jeff Lee, Foley Parks and Recreation Director, in an Oct. 9 press release

The City of Foley’s officials hope to seek construction bids later this year. Once work begins, construction is anticipated to last about 18 months.

The existing outdoor pool will remain open until the Aquatic Center is fully finished. Following the opening of the new aquatics center, the current pool will be replaced with another park amenity.
