8 fun Mobile Bay weekend events: Book bedazzling, line dancing + more (Aug. 14-16)

This weekend, grab some friends or family and try something new! Whether it’s book bedazzling or line dancing, there are lots of ways to branch out in the Mobile Bay area.

Things to do Friday, Aug. 14:

LoDa Artwalk: White Linen Night in Downtown Mobile

This August, Mobile’s LoDa Artwalk will give you an opportunity to slip into your white summer attire! Stop by Cathedral Square to enjoy a live performance by the Excelsior Band in between shopping local art and goods on Dauphin Street.

Parents can bring their kids by the Kids’ Zone for fun, hands-on crafts and face-painting.

An Evening with Emily Stuckey @ The People’s Room of Mobile

Pop in to the People’s Room of Mobile for an evening with Emily Stuckey, an Americana singer-songwriter whose music is shaped by stories of family, memory and growing up along the Gulf Coast and in Northeast Jackson, Mississippi.

She sings, plays guitar and percussion — and is a Fairhope local!

Spanish Fort Volleyball Benefit Night @ The Bull

Stop at The Bull for a meal from 4-8PM to support Spanish Fort’s volleyball team!

Dog Days Of Summer @ The Exploreum

Bring the whole family to enjoy dog-themed activities, live science and dog demonstrations, local vendors… plus the chance to meet your newest four-legged family member through a pet adoption with Wags & Whiskers!

Bonus: New York Life will be offering Child ID and Dog Tag ID services, and Holly Jolly Snowcones will be on-site beginning at 11:00 AM with cool treats available for purchase!

Book Bedazzling @ The Haunted Book Shop

Celebrate Bookstore Romance Day by joining your fellow book lovers and crafting enthusiasts (especially romance fans) to cover your favorite book cover with rhinestones!

Your ticket gets you a deluxe bedazzling kit including gems, wax pencil, scoop, tweezers, tray and glue. If you don’t finish by the end of the event, no worries: the kit is yours to take home.

Psst: If you aren’t a romance reader, that’s completely okay — bring your favorite fantasy, mystery, thriller, literary (any genre, any book cover)!

Boot Scootin’ Brews – Line Dancing @ Oyster City Brewing

Break out your boots and enjoy a night of free line dancing lessons each Saturday, taught by Lisa Nguyen! No prior experience needed — all ages and all skill levels are welcome to join in the fun.

P & L Seafood will be on site to satiate dancers’ appetites, and Oyster City will have cold beer flowing all night long.

Mobile Tiki Week Kickoff Luau @ Braided River Brewing Company

Kick off Mobile Tiki Week at Braided River Brewing Company’s luau. Enjoy a whole hog and tropical-themed side dishes, compliments of Mystics of Swine, tropical beer cocktails and live music by Dirty Fridays. Plates will be free of charge — donations only!

Disaster Resiliency Forum (ft. James Spann) @ National Maritime Museum of the Gulf

United Way of Southwest Alabama will be hosting the United We Prepare: Disaster Resiliency Forum, featuring James Spann, AMS Certified Meteorologist, Chief Meteorologist at ABC 33/40 and host of the WeatherBrains podcast. 

The forum will teach locals how to better prepare yourself, your family and your community for severe weather and disasters.
