65 puppies and dogs from four local shelters were flown to Pennsylvania and Delaware (hopefully they’re ok with unsweet tea).
Many of them are heading to their forever homes.
The Mobile County Animal Shelter contributed 23 dogs to this rescue flight, which was coordinated by the ASPCA and Wings of Rescue.
The effort involved the Mobile SPCA, City of Mobile Animal Shelter, and Baldwin County Animal Shelter.
Over 50 volunteers and shelter staff gathered, crated, and loaded the dogs for transport.
Robin Strickland of Mobile SPCA stated that most dogs will be in new homes within 48 hours.
Alabama faces pet overpopulation, while states with stricter spay/neuter laws have a higher demand for pets.
Rescue flights, which rely on coordinated efforts from various organizations, help balance pet populations and relieve shelter overcrowding.
The Mobile County Animal Shelter still has 62 adoptable dogs, with no fees for adult dogs.
All adopted animals receive necessary vaccines, a microchip, and heartworm/flea preventative.
Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7665 Howell’s Ferry Road, Mobile, AL 36618.
