The Summer Moon signage has come down at the shop’s Daphne location, marking the end of the Texas-based chain’s presence in Alabama.
The sign now says Gather + Grind, but the heart of the shop hasn’t changed. Rest assured, Summer Moon fans: the same community and energy are here to stay.

Gather + Grind coffee shop now open
Owners Marcus and Kelly Allgood launched the Summer Moon location in January 2023 to break into the coffee industry, Marcus told Mobile Bay Now. When their franchise contract recently expired, the duo decided it was time to step away from the Austin, Texas-based corporate chain to lean into their Alabama roots.

“We’ve grown a following, definitely through Summer Moon, but we have our regulars who always come in. We’re always getting new customers, and we have a pretty good base that we’ve built up over the years by getting out there, going to Chamber events and just meeting people.”
A curated menu + new ‘bubbles’
While the name on the door has changed, the Allgoods are keeping the community-focused atmosphere that built their loyal customer base over the last three years. However, the transition brings a total overhaul of the drink list.
The new, curated menu includes:
- Quarterly limited-time offers: Seasonal rotations to keep the selection fresh
- “Bubbles”: A new line of drinks featuring Lotus energy mixed with sparkling water + various syrups, available both caffeinated + caffeine-free
- Continued convenience: The shop will still operate its drive-thru for customers on the go
Despite the heavy competition among local coffee spots, Allgood remains optimistic about the shop’s growth.
