New documentary ‘Warriors’ tells the story of Davidson High’s historic 2009 football team

A new documentary spotlighting a piece of Mobile football history made its debut at Birmingham’s Sidewalk Film Festival this week, and it’s headed to the Gulf Coast this fall.
“Warriors” tells the story of Davidson High School’s 2009 football team, the first high school squad to send a duo — Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt — to the same NFL team in the draft. The film weaves together memories from players, coaches and family members to show what it took for a group of young athletes in Mobile to chase their NFL dreams together.
Where to see ‘Warriors’ this fall
Mobile audiences will have more than one chance to catch the film in the coming months. “Warriors” will screen at the 2026 Fairhope Film Festival, running Nov. 12-15. Filmmaker Leland Hall also has an independent Mobile premiere in the works for this fall, though those dates haven’t been finalized yet.
Hall, who wrote and directed the film, said there will be theatrical screenings this fall in Mobile and surrounding areas, so keep an eye out for more details.

“Warriors” premiered as part of the Sidewalk Film Festival, put on by Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema, which runs Aug. 24-30.
The Birmingham-based nonprofit produces the festival, runs educational programming for filmmakers and operates a two-screen independent movie theater in Birmingham’s historic theatre district.
