U.S. News & World Report released its 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings today, Tuesday, Aug. 4, and Mobile Infirmary Medical Center is putting the Bay area on the map statewide.

Mobile Infirmary Medical Center tied for Alabama’s No. 3 spot on this year’s Best Regional Hospitals list, matching Grandview Medical Center-Birmingham and Huntsville Hospital.

U.S. News credits Mobile Infirmary with nine high-performing marks across procedures and conditions, the most of any hospital in the state outside of Birmingham — UAB Hospital earned 18 individual high-performing procedures and conditions.

The high-performing procedures and conditions for Mobile Infirmary are, in alphabetical order:

  1. Back surgery (spinal fusion)
  2. Diabetes
  3. Heart arrhythmia
  4. Heart attack
  5. Heart failure
  6. Hip replacement
  7. Lung cancer surgery

Mobile Infirmary earns new rehab recognition

This year U.S. News debuted regional specialty rankings for the first time, and Mobile Infirmary made the cut in rehabilitation, landing at No. 3 in Alabama’s new Rehabilitation Specialty Regional rankings — one of only six hospitals statewide to place in that category.

Thomas Hospital in Fairhope earned a High Performing rating in rehabilitation and placed No. 6 in the Rehabilitation Specialty Regional rankings, giving the Eastern Shore its own spot on this year’s honors.
