ZZ TOP
March 6, 2025 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
ZZ TOP, known as “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas,” has spent well over half a century delivering their signature blend of rock, blues, and boogie to millions of devoted fans. Their unmistakable iconography—beards, hotrod cars, spinning guitars, and the legendary keychain—has made them a cultural phenomenon that transcends geography and language.
The band formed in Houston in the late 1960s, emerging from two rival groups: Billy Gibbons’ Moving Sidewalks and Frank Beard and Dusty Hill’s American Blues. Their breakthrough came with the 1973 album Tres Hombres, featuring the hit “La Grange,” which remains one of their most recognizable songs. A decade later, Eliminator introduced a new era for the band, blending blues roots with modern technology. Hits like “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs” became staples of early MTV, and the album achieved Diamond certification, signifying over 10 million units sold in the U.S. alone.
ZZ TOP has been a dominant touring force for over five decades, performing for millions across four continents. Their legacy was further cemented with the Grammy-nominated documentary That Little Ol’ Band From Texas. The band’s lineup—Gibbons, Hill, and Beard—remained intact for more than 50 years until Dusty Hill’s passing in 2021. Before his departure, Hill personally selected Elwood Francis to take over bass duties, a role he continues to fulfill.
The band’s longevity and enduring appeal can be attributed to their guiding principles: “Tone, Taste, and Tenacity.” As genuine roots musicians, their influences span blues legends like Muddy Waters and B.B. King, British blues rockers, and guitar icon Jimi Hendrix.
With hundreds of millions of records sold, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (presented by Keith Richards), and a designation as official Heroes of the State of Texas, ZZ TOP has left an indelible mark on music and pop culture. Frequently referenced in cartoons and sitcoms, the band remains a true rock institution—continuing to do what they have always done. ZZ TOP abides!
