Chamber Music Concert- Harp, Horn & Strings
April 19 @ 4:00 pm

If you love beautiful instrumental music, you won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to hear some of the greatest masterpieces from the Classical and Romantic eras performed on the harp, horn, organ and string quintet! This program will be presented as part of the concert series at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope.
Josiah Bullach, assistant principal horn of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will be featured in the Mozart Horn Quintet, along with other principal players of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The Mozart quintet is not often heard in chamber concerts on the Gulf Coast, but it is a popular, virtuosic showpiece for the horn and epitomizes the best of Classical Era music. It is joyful, lively, elegant, playful, at times, serene and always delightful!
Another featured piece that few people have ever had the chance to hear live, will be the Glière Harp Concerto. The Glière Concerto is one of the greatest masterpieces ever written for the harp and is marked by sweeping lyricism and deep expressiveness, drawing on the traditions of Russian Romanticism reminiscent of Rachmaninoff. Rebekah Atkinson, harpist, will be the soloist and will be accompanied by the horn and strings for a powerful and passionate presentation.
Additional pieces will include a cello showpiece by Saint-Saëns, his rousing Allegro Appassionato, Op. 43 and the ethereal, intensely introspective “Sospiri” by Elgar for strings, organ and harp.
The event is free but donations are cheerfully accepted.
