The Alabama Poppy Project, a moving visual tribute to deceased service members and veterans, is proud to announce that its 2026 exhibition will be held at the iconic USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. The display will be open to the public from May 22 through May 26, 2026.
Since its inception, the exhibit has grown annually to match the current year’s date, symbolizing the continuity of sacrifice. For 2026, the field will feature 2,026 poppies mounted on steel rods, with white silk dedication ribbons tied to the stems, each bearing the name of a loved one who served but is no longer living.

🌹  Who We Honor: While Memorial Day is traditionally observed for those killed in action, the Alabama Poppy Project expands this honor to all service members who are no longer with us. Whether they fell in battle or passed away years after their service concluded, every deceased veteran is eligible for a poppy dedication.
🌹  The Poppy Field: 2,026 handmade red stoneware poppies will be “planted” on steel rods throughout the grounds of the Memorial Park, creating a swaying field of red.
🌹  Sponsorship & Keepsakes: Visitors may sponsor a poppy to honor a fallen service member. Sponsors will receive a handmade stoneware poppy (available in two sizes) to take home immediately as a permanent tribute.
🌹  The Dedication Ribbons: Included with the sponsorship is a white dedication ribbon bearing the veteran’s name. Participants will tie this ribbon to the steel stem of a poppy in the display field, ensuring the name of the fallen remains part of the public tribute throughout the holiday weekend.
🌹  Ribbon Return: Following the conclusion of the event, the dedication ribbons will be retrieved from the display and mailed to the sponsors as a keepsake.
🌹  Website Listing of Honorees: The Alabama Poppy Project maintains a website with the names of those honored since 2020. Those sponsoring a poppy may also have their “honoree” listed on our website, which includes a photograph and brief biography to ensure their service and sacrifice are not forgotten.
