Airbus partnership brings aerospace education to Mobile middle schoolers

Mobile County students have a new space to explore careers in flight and manufacturing after the school bell rings.
Flight Works Alabama (FWA) and Airbus have partnered to launch an Aerospace Clubhouse at Pillans Middle School, operated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama. The clubhouse gives middle schoolers an interactive after-school space built around:
- STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts + Mathematics) activities
- Mentorship from aerospace professionals
- Hands-on technical exercises
The launch comes as Airbus marks the 11th anniversary of its US Manufacturing Facility in Mobile, and ties into the broader “Imagine What’s Possible” initiative FWA and Airbus rolled out to connect Mobile and Baldwin county students with career pathways in advanced manufacturing.

City leaders see the clubhouse as part of a longer-term push to connect Mobile-area students with the region’s growing aerospace industry.

FWA leadership framed the clubhouse as one piece of a larger effort to remove barriers between the classroom and the shop floor.

The Aerospace Clubhouse is part of the wider “Imagine What’s Possible” push, which also includes funded field trips to FWA and the Airbus final assembly line for 5th, 7th and 9th grade students, plus fully funded access to the We Build It Better and We Will Build It Better curriculum for area schools.
