Only 13 contestants are advancing to the live shows of Season 30 on The Voice and two of them are from the Mobile Bay area.

Anna McElroy from Mobile and Joe Henley from Grand Bay advanced past the show’s new “Cut Week” episode after being selected by their coaches to advance to the final 13.

Don’t forget, Mobile native Alexia Jayy won the whole competition last season. Could an Alabama repeat be in the cards?

Each coach entered the episode with seven team members but only three from each team could advance to the live shows with one final spot determined by a fan vote.

The coaches chose two singers from their teams to automatically advance past Cut Week. Anna McElroy was part of that duo for Team Kelly.

“I feel honored that she’s trusting me so much to move forward… I’m going to bring it in the (live shows). I hope America likes me, I hope you like me, America!”

Things were a little more dramatic for Joe Henley on Team Riley.

Henley was not selected to automatically advance to the live shows but he was given one more chance to impress his coach Riley Green along with four other teammates. And he delivered a performance that got a standing ovation from all four coaches.

“From the first notes out of your mouth, that natural style, your natural tone in your voice is incredible. If you’re not in the finale, I would be mind blown.”

Henley sang “Don’t Close Your Eyes” by Keith Whitley and made himself even more of a crowd favorite. The performance made Riley Green’s final decision a little easier.

“This is so fun because you’re so naturally talented. You haven’t been doing it a long time but Keith Whitley does some really unique things and to be able to go do what he does is really difficult.”
