When Robinson passed away\, she entrusted her art\, writing\, personal belongings and home studio to the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio\, her hometown museum.  \n\n\n\nAminah Robinson: Journeys Home\, a Visual Memoir brings together some of the artist’s most profound works and words\, produced over seven decades from 1948 to 2012. DESCRIPTION:Handle with Care is a new interactive exhibition exploring all the potential of what we take for granted.In a partnership exhibition originated by Alabama Contemporary Art Center for Mobile Museum of Art\, artists Calder Kamin (Austin\, TX) and Jacob Reptile (New Orleans\, LA) transform trash into soft and complex sculptures to create a new kind of environment. Through purposeful reuse of fabrics\, plastics and second-hand materials\, these artists create new alien lifeforms\, flora and fauna to populate an imagined landscape.The space they have created speaks to local ecology\, the environmental impact of waste and inspires a playful consideration of what we produce through industry. Everything here was once discarded\, now re-purposed into a mythical topography that celebrates vibrant and unfettered growth\, and invites viewers to inhabit the exhibition as they consider how we inhabit the natural world we live in.Everything has been touched by human hands and can be touched. Everything can find purpose with a little imagination\, and the work of making a sustainable planet can also happen through play.

DESCRIPTION:Louise Nevelson: Dawn to Dusk January 29 — July 31\, 2026 \n\n\n\nOrganized by Farnsworth Art Museum and guest curated by Suzette McAvoy Spanning Louise Nevelson’s career from 1929–1985\, the exhibition traces the groundbreaking artist’s formative years to her emergence as a sculptor of international renown through works selected from the Farnsworth Art Museum collection. Louise Nevelson: Dawn to Dusk traces the groundbreaking artist’s formative years to her emergence as a sculptor of international renown through 40 works selected from the Farnsworth Art Museum collection. Spanning her career from 1929–1985\, included in the exhibition are a selection of early paintings and figurative sculptures in terracotta\, cast stone and bronze; later painted wood sculptures\, reliefs and collages and examples of her unique handcrafted jewelry.Born Leah Berliawsky in 1899 in Tsarist Russia\, near Kyiv in Ukraine\, Nevelson immigrated to Rockland\, Maine\, with her family in 1905 to escape the persecution of Jews under the Imperialist regime. Before she died in 1988\, Nevelson donated 56 examples of her art to the Farnsworth Art Museum in her hometown\, making the Farnsworth collection the second largest holding of her work after the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. Louise Nevelson: Dawn to Dusk addresses themes central to Nevelson’s artistic development: her immigrant experience; her determination to pursue an art career against great personal and cultural odds; her innovative\, experimental use of materials; and her pioneering approach to installation and sculpture.

Williams\, Jr.  \n\n\n\nHats or ‘crowns’ as they are known in African American communities are an essential part of African American culture. They have played a key role in African American life from enslavement to modern day as symbols of reverence in houses of worship or resilience and resistance in times of enslavement and freedom. Susie Mae-Pugh Williams (1949 – 2020) was born and raised in Mobile\, AL. She taught herself the art of millinery (hat making) and created hats\, wraps\, fascinators and other head wear for herself\, friends and clients. Those creations would have been worn to church or for events such as weddings\, Mardi Gras festivities and other celebrations.  This exhibition contains over two dozen hats that were made by Mrs. Williams or that she admired and drew inspiration from for her own creations.

Dr. Suzuki based his approach on the belief that “Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed.” He began to apply the basic principles of language acquisition to the learning of music\, and called his method the mother-tongue approach. As when a child learns to talk\, parents are involved in the musical learning of their child. Listening to music every day is important\, and constant repetition is essential in learning to play an instrument. Children ages 4-7 are accepted for violin\, viola or cello. Music Magic Lab 1 & 2! Learning is fun\, learning music theory is the best! The Mobile Symphony presents the theory of music in a step-by-step\, straightforward way for anyone who wants to have fun learning the music fundamentals. This class covers treble clef notation\, time values\, time signatures\, sharps\, flats\, naturals\, note spelling and much more. Learning the basics of theory will prove useful for life and for multiple instruments. Some students pick up music by ear. Great! They can sit down and start to play what they want just by listening to the melody of their favorite song. For the rest of us\, however\, having a basic knowledge of the notes on the staff\, the location of those notes on our instrument\, is the foundation we use to read and build music. LEVEL I Grades 4-6: Note reading fundamentals\, basic musical symbols and concepts\, melodic and rhythmic ear training. Materials will be provided LEVEL II Grades 7-12: More advanced musical concepts and ear training. Circle of fifths\, intervals\, key and time signatures\, etc. Materials will be provided BEGINNING STRINGS: Learn how to play a string instrument during summer and develop new skills under the expert guidance of a professional string teacher artist. Make new friends\, discover the secrets of your instrument\, learn new music\, and just have fun playing in an orchestra! For elementary or middle school students wanting to learn how to play the violin\, viola\, cello or string bass . No experience necessary. DESCRIPTION:It’s all about family\, music\, and of course watermelons\, with the help of our sponsors and farmers\, to bring it all to lower Alabama on July 3rd and 4th each year.  Not only our hometown folks\, but a lot of people from all over the country come to enjoy our Festival and delicious Grand Bay watermelons.  2026 will be our 52nd Annual Grand Bay Watermelon Festival\, and we anticipate approximately 5\,000 or more visitors.   July 3rd is our ‘preview day’\, we will be open from 3-7 pm with free parking\, arts & craft vendors\, food vendors\, on-stage entertainment\, and kids rides.  July 4th\, our big day\, we will open at 9:30 am and close at 5 pm\, $5 per vehicle parking\, and in addition to what we have on July 3rd\, the 4th will include introduction of the Festival Queens and Pretty Baby Contest winners\, a Car Show\, more children’s rides/bounce houses/water slides\, games for kids and adults\, and all the free-sliced-ice cold watermelon you can eat. There will also have a spectacular fireworks display at dusk on July 4th!  If you leave the Festival and come back for the Fireworks just show your Festival Program at the gate for free admission back into the park.  Otherwise\, the entrance for the fireworks is $5.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, July 4 from 5:30-9:30 p.m.\, enjoy live music\, food trucks\, local vendors\, nonprofits\, games\, family-friendly activities\, and a breathtaking fireworks show at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. \nAdmission to the Fourth of July Celebration is free\, but there are fees to park. Parking will cost $10 per car and $30 per RV (cash only). You may reserve your spot in advance starting May 4. If you purchase a presale parking ticket\, you will be able to park as early as 4 p.m. on the day of the event. No parking will be allowed after 8:15 p.m. Re-entry is permitted with parking pass; however\, parking availability may be limited once the lot reaches capacity. \nBlankets and lawn chairs are encouraged for seating\, and don’t forget to pack sunscreen and to stay hydrated! Coolers are allowed\, but glass containers and alcohol are not. Please see the full list of prohibited items and activities below: \n\nballoons\, bubbles\, confetti\, or paper lanterns\ngrilling or cooking with propane or fuel on grass\nweapons\nalcohol\nglass\nskateboards\, hoverboards\, rollerblades\, and similar items\nopen flames\, including candles\nsmoking or vaping in enclosed areas\nsticks or poles (including selfie sticks and flag poles)\npets are not recommended due to large crowds and fireworks\n\nRestroom facilities will be located throughout the event area.
