SUMMARY:Rigoletto
DESCRIPTION:Rigoletto by Giuseppi Verdi (1813-1851) is a dramatic masterpiece\, showing Verdi’s genius in producing characters whose inner conflicts weave complex webs of dramatic tension. Rigoletto is both the evil jester and a loving father. Gilda\, the naïve ingenue is capable of forgiveness and sacrificial love. The Duke of Mantua can appear as both callow youth and heartless libertine. Verdi sets the stage in Mantua where the licentious court of the Duke’s privileged debauchery is on display. The Duke boasts of his conquests of women and Rigoletto suggests he imprison Count Ceprano and seduce his wife. Furious\, Ceprano plots to abduct a girl he suspects is Rigoletto’s mistress. Monterone forces his way in to denounce the Duke for the rape of his daughter. As he is led away\, Rigoletto cruelly mocks him and Moneterone pronounces a vengeful curse which horrifies the jester. \n\n\n\nAs Rigoletto broods on the curse\, he encounters Sparafucile\, a professional assassin\, who offers his services. Rigoletto rejects the offer but will recall it later. He reaches home and greets his daughter. They speak of her mother and Rigoletto tells Gilda that she is all he has that is good in the world. He leaves her in charge of her nurse. We find that the Duke has been courting Gilda while disguised as a student\, Gulatier Malde’\, and she has fallen in love with him. Now he arrives but they are interrupted by the courtiers who have come to steal her away. They encounter Rigoletto and slyly enlist his aid to abduct Count Ceprano’s wife from across the street. Rigoletto joins in the joke but when the mask they give him obscures his vision\, he is turned around and the cruel joke is on him as he helps them to kidnap his daughter\, Gilda. When they leave him alone he discovers the awful truth. \n\n\n\nThe Duke paces\, fearful that Gilda has been taken away but when he learns that she has been brought to him\, he rushes to her. When Rigoletto appears looking for her\, the courtiers bar his way\, astonished to learn that Gilda is his daughter. He lashes out at them in fury and then collapses into pleading. Gilda is released\, disheveled and shamed. Rigoletto orders the courtiers away. Moneterone passes by on his way to his execution\, providing the ironic backdrop for Rigoletto’s oath of vengeance. Gilda\, in spite of her ill treatment and in love with the Duke\, begs for his life. \n\n\n\nFather and daughter huddle outside of a small\, lonely inn where Sparafucile and his sister\, Maddalena\, entertain the Duke. Rigoletto tells Gilda to disguise herself as a boy and meet him in Verona. When she is gone\, he hires Sparafucile to kill the Duke. As a storm breaks\, Gilda returns and overhears Maddelena pleading with her brother to spare the Duke but his “professional ethics” will not allow him to break his contract. At length he agrees that someone has to die – the Duke or the next person who knocks on the door that night. At the height of the storm\, Gilda enters the inn and sacrifices herself to save the Duke. Shortly\, Rigoletto returns to collect a sack containing the body. He gloats over the death of his former patron but is stopped short when he hears the voice of the Duke in the inn. He frantically opens the sack to find Gilda. As the remembrance of Monterone’s curse crashes in on him\, Rigoletto realizes that vengeance has consumed the avenger. Gilda dies in his arms. The curse has been fulfilled.

SUMMARY:Katt Williams
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to have you join us for what promises to be an evening filled with laughter and entertainment! \n\n\n\nAs we prepare for the show\, we want to remind all our valued patrons that filming during the performance is strictly prohibited and subject to copyright laws. Our comedians work diligently to craft their material\, and unauthorized recordings not only disrupt the performance but also infringe upon their intellectual property rights. \n\n\n\nWith a career spanning over 20 years\, Katt Williams has earned a worldwide reputation as one of today’s top entertainers\, having developed a career seeded with thousands of sold-out arenas\, an expansive list of starring roles on the small screen and memorable performances in major box office hits. His latest project\, the comedy horror film “The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2\,” follow-up to the 2016 indie hit “Meet the Blacks\,” stars Williams along with Mike Epps\, Snoop Dogg and Danny Trejo. The film earned numerous accolades on opening weekend including: #1 Comedy in North America\, #1 highest-grossing new independent film release\, and biggest opening for a feature film in less than 1\,000 locations since March 2020. \n\n\n\nSince performing his first stand-up show as a teenager\, Williams has been taking the comedy world by storm. He quickly developed a unique style of standup that highlights articulate and sharp dialogue\, rooted in conversations reflecting the American political landscape. By 1999\, he had cultivated a loyal fan base and was performing on some of the most notable comedy stages in the nation. After conquering the stage\, Williams shifted his focus into film and television. In 2002\, Williams made his onscreen debut as a guest star on “NYPD Blue.” Soon after\, Williams began to consistently book television appearances\, before landing his first feature film role as Money Mike in “Friday After Next.” Following his breakout performance in the sequel to “Friday\,” Williams captured the attention of directors\, producers\, and audiences in a major way\, eventually racking up an extensive list of memorable onscreen appearances including “Father Figures\,” “Norbit\,” “Scary Movie V\,” “Epic Movie\,” “Bastards\,” “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore\,” “The Boondocks\,” “Wild ‘n Out\,” and his guest role in “Atlanta\,” which earned him a Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.  Celebrated for his brilliance and ingenuity on stage\, Williams is also known for his epic standup specials\, including “The Pimp Chronicles\,” “It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’\,” “Katt Williams: Pimpadelic\,” “American Hustle\,” “Priceless: Afterlife\,” “Kattpacalypse\,” and most recently\, “Katt Williams: Great America” on Netflix.

SUMMARY:MANIA: The ABBA Tribute
DESCRIPTION:From London’s West End to Worcester\, MANIA the ABBA tribute is headlining the Saenger Theatre April 3rd! \n\n\n\nIn an exhilarating\, two-hour recreation of one of ABBA’s most memorable concerts\, MANIA brings to life the flamboyance of the ‘70s. This includes all of the uplifting\, dance-inducing\, and sometimes heart-breaking songs from the iconic Swedish band\, with fantastic costumes\, staging\, lighting\, and effects. \n\n\n\nMANIA recently toured the United States for the 10th time with an impressive 37-date national tour\, selling over 50\,000 tickets and visiting 18 states. \n\n\n\nFor lifelong ABBA fans\, as well as new generations who never had the opportunity to see the band live\, MANIA provides the perfect excuse to party\, relive memories and simply feel entertained with the best music ever. \n\n\n\nSo dig out those platforms\, dust down those flares\, and enjoy all your favorite hits\, including “Mamma Mia\,” “Voulez Vous\,” “Dancing Queen\,” “Winner Takes It All\,” “Waterloo\,” “Fernando\,” “Super Trouper” and many more. \n\n\n\nMANIA (formerly ABBA MANIA) formed in 1999 and the show has been selling out theatres and concert halls internationally ever since. This show has toured the world in its quest to bring the music of the Swedish ‘Supergroup’ to their millions of fans\, old and new! \n\n\n\nIn 2007 it grossed over Aus $1 million at the box office in Sydney\, Australia. The show has ventured to France\, Denmark\, Belgium\, Spain\, South Africa\, New Zealand\, Singapore\, USA\, Australia and South Korea as well as touring the UK extensively. \n\n\n\nThe show has been successfully touring the USA annually since 2009 with over 400 performances\, many of the venues book the show every year as it has become a ‘tradition’ for both the show and the audiences. The thirst for this sensational recreation of ABBA’s concert is getting stronger every year. \n\n\n\nAgnetha\, Bjorn\, Benny and Anni-Frid\, collectively known as ABBA\, dominated the charts for nearly ten years and enjoyed nine UK number 1 hits. At their height they became Sweden’s highest export earners\, amazingly\, outselling Volvo cars. ‘ABBA Gold’ was continuously in the Album Charts throughout the nineties and is one of the biggest selling albums ever. \n\n\n\nABBA’s timeless songs were written to be enjoyed live and MANIA gives you exactly that. Two hours of uplifting\, dance inducing and sometimes heart-breaking songs\, fully live with fantastic staging\, lighting and effects. The show recreates ABBA’s sound not only perfectly\, but respectfully too. MANIA is not only for life long\, die hard ABBA fans but the new generation of fans\, who never had the opportunity to see ‘ABBA’ live. Hits include ‘Dancing Queen’\, ‘Waterloo’\, ‘Mamma Mia’\, ‘The Winner Takes it All’\, ‘Super Trouper’\, ‘Fernando’\, ‘Take A Chance On Me’ and many more that continue to fill dance floors worldwide. \n\n\n\n“Beware of imitations…this is the real musical tribute!” – Polly Graham\, Sunday Mirror

SUMMARY:Unwritten: Archaeology and Oral History of Jim Crow Mobile
DESCRIPTION:A new special exhibit\, “Unwritten: Archaeology and Oral History of Jim Crow Mobile\,” highlighting the lives of the Lewis\, Owens\, and Griffin families is open at the University of South Alabama Archaeology Museum. The exhibit can be viewed now and during Black History Month\, until the end of April.  The museum is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 6050 USA South Drive. Admission is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\nThe exhibit will be on view exclusively at the USA Archaeology Museum\, where people can view the amazing and inspiring stories and artifacts of these African-American families during segregation. \n\n\n\n“We are excited to offer a broader audience to these stories. The exhibit introduces three families who lived in different parts of Mobile but who shared much in common. As Black families\, they endured Jim Crow segregation\,” said Jennifer Knutson\, assistant director of the USA Archaeology Museum. “They all owned homes at a time when many African Americans did not\, and their homes were excavated by archaeologists. In the mid-20th century\, development transformed their neighborhood\, erasing homes\, schools\, and shops from the landscape. Though their houses are no longer standing\, we can learn their stories through Archaeology and Oral History in this exhibit.”

SUMMARY:Our Southern Souls presents Storytellers at the Frog Pond
DESCRIPTION:Our Southern Souls presents Storytellers at the Frog Pond with Caroline Herring\, Claire Holley\, Grayson Capps\, and Caitlyn Cannon. Claire\, Grayson\, and Caitlyn are some of the South’s best songwriters. At the beginning of the show\, we will talk about growing up in Mississippi and Alabama and the influence that has on telling stories. This is a benefit for the Frog Pond at Blue Moon Farm. Tickets are a $40 donation per person. To get on the guest list and for more information about attending a show at the Frog Pond\, email Cathe Steele at thefrogpondsundaysocial@gmail.com \n\n\n\nCorky Hughes and Gram Rea are playing on the side. \n\n\n\nAbout the songwriters… \n\n\n\nClaire HolleySinger/songwriter Claire Holley grew up listening to her Dad’s records and soaking up her grandmother’s jazz piano playing as a little girl in the deep south. She began writing songs in college\, but it was while living in North Carolina that she started getting regular airplay on WUNC’s Back Porch Music and embraced a life in music. Claire’s songs are filled with “simple truths and timeless imagery that cannot be worn away with repeated listenings” says No Depression\, and Huffington Post called Claire’s voice “achingly beautiful.” She lives in Los Angeles where she is developing a one-woman-show. \n\n\n\nCaroline HerringCaroline Herring is an American singer/songwriter who inspires audiences through her songs about injustice\, hope and perseverance. Herring started her career in Austin TX when she won Best New Artist at the SXSW Austin Music Awards. Since that time\, she has recorded eight albums and has toured throughout the United States and Europe for almost 20 years. Herring has appeared on NPR’s Weekend Edition\, BBC 4’s Front Row and A Prairie Home Companion. She co-founded Thacker Mountain Radio in 1997\, a live-audience musical and literary broadcast which airs to this day each Saturday evening on Mississippi Public Broadcasting. \n\n\n\nGrayson CappsHailed by NPR’s Mountain Stage for his “unbridled energy and authenticity\,” Capps first emerged as a solo artist in 2005 following stints in the New Orleans thrash folk band the House Levelers\, which he joined while still a student studying theater at Tulane\, and his subsequent blues-rock group\, Stavin’ Chain. His proper debut release under his own name\, ‘If You Knew My Mind\,’ earned rave reviews\, with the New Orleans Times Picayune writing that “his character-based narratives are guaranteed to make you ache and exult” and Exclaim! calling it “a Southern gothic tour de force.” After Hurricane Katrina forced Capps to relocate to Franklin\, TN\, he went on to release a string of similarly exalted albums that earned him devoted followings in both the US and Europe\, including 2006’s ‘Wail & Ride\,’ which JamBase said “hums with quiet wisdom and unforced momentum;” 2007’s ‘Songbones\,’ described by All Music as “poetry filled with the bloody glory and taut acceptance of real life on the bottom;” and 2008’s ‘Rott & Roll\,” an album that prompted American Songwriter to declare\, “Take the poetry of Texas troubadour Townes Van Zandt\, combine with Steve Earle’s edgy attitude and stir with a little cup of the bayou-blues (think Howlin’ Wolf) and you start to get a taste of Capps’s scrumptious gothic gumbo.” He followed it up in 2011 by assembling a crew of Gulf Coast all stars to back him on ‘The Lost Cause Minstrels\,’ a record which found him more than living up to the “Tennessee Williams-meets-Charles Bukowski” tag he’d earned from Blurt. \n\n\n\nCaitlyn CannonAccording to Saving Country Music\, Cannon’s “not a songwriter for the winners; she’s a songwriter for the broken\, the downtrodden\, the losers\, the motherfuckers. She sings about real shit that most other songwriters don’t have the guts to broach. A crack pool player and a hilarious person on stage who could have a second career as a comedian\, Caitlin Cannon is one of those country artists that slides so criminally under the radar; it angers the blood…” \n\n\n\nAbout the Frog Pond…The Frog Pond at Blue Moon Farm in Silverhill\, Alabama is a private outdoor house concert in a private home. We are a Pro Member of The Folk Alliance International and many of the country’s best singer songwriters and musicians have graced our humble little “front porch”. \n\n\n\nThe venue is as distinctive as the performers. The Frog Pond itself\, is an outdoor stage under a 200 year old Cedar tree on Blue Moon Farm\, a property owned by Cathe Steele\, who formerly managed the entertainment at Pirates Cove in Josephine\, Alabama. Cathe\, and her songwriter friend Grayson Capps\, took inspiration for the Frog Pond house concerts series from the famed “Midnight Rambles” conducted by drummer Levon Helm. As she describes it\, the core idea is to bring musicians and serious listeners together in an informal but respectful house concert setting on the farm where the focus is firmly on the music and community built through artists and listeners. It’s a magical place where music is brought back to it’s roots\, in a true listening atmosphere where songwriters and musicians alike come together to “wood shed” and network. The Frog Pond offers each artist the opportunity to play with others that they would not normally have the opportunity to perform with\, while sharing fan bases & introducing their music to new ears within an intimate venue of true music lovers. We are a not for profit house concert with original music by the performers. All proceeds go to our songwriters. \n\n\n\nAt Blue Moon Farm\, patrons bring their own chairs and beverages and are encouraged to participate in a communal covered-dish dinner. Overnight camping is allowed for out of towners. The house concerts are intimate\, unique\, and you must be on the guest list to attend as it is not open to the public. Please feel free to contact us for details and an invite to experience the musical magic and community of The Frog Pond at Blue Moon Farm.
