Race day registration will be available at Fort Gaines from 7:00 to 8:00 AM. \n\n\n\nAwards:\n\n\n\nAwards will be presented to the top three male and female overall finishers\, as well as the top male and female Masters\, Grandmasters\, Senior Grandmasters\, Wheelchair\, and Race Walkers. Additionally\, the top three male and female finishers in each five-year age group will be recognized. \n\n\n\nShirts:\n\n\n\nParticipants who register by February 1 are guaranteed a premium BOMB 5K shirt. John Wesley\, tragically lost in a hit-and-run accident on February 18\, 2023\, was an Eagle Scout and sophomore electrical engineering major at the University of South Alabama. The scholarship honors his dedication to character\, academics\, and athletics\, awarding a St. Luke’s senior who exemplifies these values. DESCRIPTION:The Blacksmith Experience will host the 4th Annual Knife Making Competition on Saturday\, February 22\, from 9 AM to 3 PM at the USS Alabama Battleship. This family-friendly event will feature former contestants from the History Channel’s “Forged in Fire” as they demonstrate their knife-making skills. \n\n\n\nA $5 suggested admission fee includes entry into a giveaway for one of the knives crafted during the event. Winners do not need to be present to claim their prize. Attendees are welcome to come and go throughout the day. \n\n\n\nSupporting a Worthy Cause\n\n\n\nProceeds from the event will benefit Forging A Difference\, a nonprofit organization that utilizes blacksmithing and knife making to support Veterans\, Active Duty Military\, Law Enforcement\, and First Responders. Through these creative workshops\, participants engage in a community-driven approach that integrates mental health support and well-being.

Past collaborations include partnerships with Cave Canem\, an internationally recognized organization for Black poets and poetry\, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. \n\n\n\nThe Historic Avenue Cultural Center\n\n\n\nThe Historic Avenue Cultural Center officially opened on October 4\, 2023\, with the exhibition Remembering the Avenue\, curated by Jada Jones. The center is housed in a historic building listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983. Originally constructed as a mini-replica of the Ben May Library\, it served as the Davis Avenue Branch of the Mobile Public Library during segregation before becoming the National African American Archives & Museum. In 2018\, the Mobile County Commission\, under Commissioner Merceria Ludgood\, secured the building under a 50-year agreement\, investing in renovations before reopening it as a cultural hub. Today\, it serves as an anchor of Mobile’s emerging Civil Rights & Cultural Heritage District.

Those interested in exploring Chickasabogue Creek should bring their own kayak or canoe. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from food trucks. The park gates will open at noon. To maintain a family-friendly atmosphere\, alcohol is not permitted in Mobile County parks.
