Highlights include mask-making\, sampling festive treats\, and joining a joyful parade around the Exploreum. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, a special showing of Disney’s Princess and the Frog will take place in the PCI Digital Dome Theater at 9:30 a.m. Seating for the film is first come\, first served. \n\n\n\nAdmission is $12 for non-members and free for members. With the usual fashion flair\, guests are encouraged to dust off their cowboy boots and join us for a night of fun and support for local children suffering from autoimmune disorders. \n\n\n\nThe Boots & BBQ Barn Bash\, presented by Children’s of Alabama and Rheum4y’AL\, is proud to honor Ava Mendenhall this year. Ava was diagnosed with psoriatic juvenile idiopathic arthritis at 8 years old on March 18\, 2024\, coincidentally World Juvenile Arthritis Day. \n\n\n\nA talented dancer from Mobile\, Ava has been dancing since she was 2 and is part of Sheffield’s School of the Dance’s national award-winning team. With the care of Dr. Melissa Mannion\, a pediatric rheumatologist at Children’s of Alabama\, Ava continues to pursue her passion while managing her condition. Her family remains hopeful for a cure. \n\n\n\nProceeds from the Boots & BBQ Barn Bash will provide funding for Dr. Mannion’s clinic in Mobile to treat the many children along the Gulf Coast suffering from autoimmune disorders such as pediatric rheumatoid arthritis. These children face a grueling eight-hour journey just to receive their necessary treatment in Birmingham. \n\n\n\nThe Pediatric Rheumatology Clinic at Children’s of Alabama diagnoses and treats children with autoimmune disorders including juvenile arthritis\, lupus\, myositis\, scleroderma\, and various vasculitides. Clinical research aims to optimize the treatment of juvenile arthritis through diverse projects and relies on fundraisers like the Boots & BBQ Barn Bash to make this possible. DESCRIPTION:This three-day minicamp taught by ACAC’s own Pame Cevallos allows young artist to reflect on Mobile’s celebratory traditions and imagine the ways they can evolve in the future\, using mixed media and recycled materials to make one a kind artwork. \n\n\n\nThis camp is held Wednesday\, February 14th through Friday\, February 16th from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; the camp ends on Friday featuring an art show by the campers. This is designed for children ages 8 to 11 and limited to fifteen students in order to provide one-on-one art education. \n\n\n\n*Campers must bring a lunch and snack every day to eat during supervised breaks.
