SUMMARY:2024 Sidewalk Chalkathon
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this innovative\, family-friendly fundraising event that will benefit the Mobile Medical Museum and our co-host\, the Ambitiously Him and Her King Foundation. Contestants of all ages are invited to compete for prizes awarded to the best sidewalk chalk drawings. Also featured will be music\, activity tables and food trucks. All proceeds from the event will help to fund the charitable work of the host organizations.  \n\n\n\nUp to thirty contestants will be able to compete\, grouped into age categories and judged by a panel of local artists. Each contestant will receive one admission ticket and a complimentary supply of chalk in 48 available colors\, Non-competitive\, “just for fun” chalk packets are also available at a discount. There will be spaces marked out for drawing on the pavement underneath the pavilions at Tricentennial Park. If weather permits\, contestants may also use other nearby paved areas. Contestants will have up to one hour to complete their drawings. Based on the scoring of the judges’ panel\, prizes will be awarded in each age category. \n\n\n\nSponsored by Ashland Gallery\, Innova Arts\, and Sophiella Gallery. Special thanks to Damian Marks\, Sr.\, and Sherry Marks for donating the chalk for this event.

DESCRIPTION:The third annual Holiday Homes Tour will be held on Saturday\, Dec. 16\, 2023\, at 11 a.m. at Historic Oakleigh House Museum. This tour will feature five historic homes along Government St. and the Oakleigh Garden District. The tour will also feature All Saints Episcopal Church. Each location will be beautifully decorated for the holidays. Live music and refreshments will be featured at The Historic Oakleigh House all day. There will be a variety of vendors such as So Jam Delicious and Dog Days Barkery. Tickets are $35 and include a tour of the houses and admittance to Candlelight Christmas at Oakleigh that same evening from 5 until 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in Oakleigh’s gift shop or by visiting historicmobile.org/events. DESCRIPTION:This three-day minicamp taught by ACAC’s own Pame Cevallos allows young artist to reflect on Mobile’s celebratory traditions and imagine the ways they can evolve in the future\, using mixed media and recycled materials to make one a kind artwork. \n\n\n\nThis camp is held Wednesday\, February 14th through Friday\, February 16th from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; the camp ends on Friday featuring an art show by the campers. This is designed for children ages 8 to 11 and limited to fifteen students in order to provide one-on-one art education. \n\n\n\n*Campers must bring a lunch and snack every day to eat during supervised breaks. DESCRIPTION:Join the drawing community and kick off the week with a relaxing\, creative activity. Meeting weekly\, this self-guided class begins with short poses for gesture drawing and moves into longer poses for fuller sketches or drawings. You will be able to bring your own supplies and easel (optional)\, and work at your own pace\, with no prior experience necessary. This is an open studio with a live nude model. Attendees must be 18 years or older. No instructor is provided\, although the moderator may do a 20-minute demo upon request. \n\n\n\nThe drop-in class rate is $20 per session\, however students who purchase a class package in advance can attend any 6 classes for $110 and $100 for ACAC members. Once you sign up you will receive a punch card to track your class attendance. They will meet every Monday on the 3rd Floor of ACAC\, unless otherwise instructed. \n\n\n\nMore information here.

Learn the basics of wheel-throwing in this 6-week beginners’ ceramics class. Inspired by collection exhibition\, DECADES: Looking Back/Moving Forward (1940 – 1959)\, they’ll have various themed activities for guests\, including a large collaborative drawing called the Exquisite Corpse. In this game\, each participant takes turns writing or drawing on a sheet of paper\, folding it to conceal his or her contribution\, and then passing it to the next player for a further contribution. \n\n\n\nThere will also be a screening of the short Surrealist film\, “Meshes of the Afternoon\,” made in 1943 by Maya Deren.
